You can’t block Zuckerberg (but you can bar his Beast)
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan posted this wedding photograph on his Facebook page in May, 2012
With their constant status updates, baby pictures and inspirational quotes, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife are a couple many would want to avoid on Facebook. But it is now impossible to block them.
So many people have attempted to silence the Facebook founder from their feeds that the social network can no longer process the request. Trying to shut out updates from his wife, Priscilla Chan, produces the same result.
The only member of the Zuckerberg clan who can be blocked is Beast, the couple’s shaggy Hungarian sheepdog, whose Facebook page has more than two million followers.
Users who try to block the billionaires receive the message: “This profile can’t be blocked for now.
“You can report pages or profiles if you think they’re doing something that goes against our community standards. If you think you’re seeing this by mistake, please let us know.”
Some assumed the message was installed by Mr Zuckerberg to stop his 95 million followers deserting.
However, a Facebook spokeswoman said: “It’s generated when a person has been blocked a certain large number of times.
“In very rare instances, a viral campaign will develop instructing lots of people to all wrongly block the same person.”
In 2010, a campaign was launched to block Mr Zuckerberg by the website BlockZuck.com. However, within months of posting instructions on how to do so people began receiving the error message.
His posts benefit from help from the Facebook algorithm and are more prominent on news feeds, according to industry experts.
