Having albino child made life more interesting for my family     — 26th September 2017 By Egbuzobi Chinwendu And Ofoedu Kelechi  Mrs Rita Chinwe Okagbare’s daughter, Onome is an albino. She is not sure of exactly when she realized that her skin tone was unique. However, it was in the secondary school that a teacher picked on her and teased her with her complexion. With this experience, Onome grew up with the idea to help create awareness on albinism as well as educating them on how to properly take care of their skin. Mrs Okagbare, who has encouraged her daughter in the face of all odds and stigmatization, helped her to start up a Foundation, Onome Akinlolu Majaro Foundation (OAM Foundation) with the aim of ending the discrimination against people living with albinism, and to promote the wellbeing of persons with albinism. Labour threatens to shut down Kenya Airways Nigerian operations     — 26th September 2017 By Louis Ibah Labour union in Nigeria’s aviation sector are threatening to shut down Kenya Airways operations in the country following the insertion of ‘performance based leave clause’ for its Nigerian staff. The airline in its new policy for the country’s workers said that payment of leave bonuses would now be based on their performance on the job while workers would no longer be entitled to leave allowances during public holidays. The new policy of the airline has however angered the workers and industry unions who said the policy was against the Nigerian labour laws and they have issued the airline a14 day ultimatums to address the issue or risk industrial actions by the union. Half of Nigerian children lack early childhood support-UNICEF     — 26th September 2017 By Gabriel Dike A global UNICEF report launched in Abuja on Tuesday shows that Nigeria is putting its children at risk of under-development because critical national policies are not providing an adequate foundation for their growth. Macron to table initiative for EU reforms     — 26th September 2017 French President Emmanuel Macron plans to present his proposals to reform the European Union on Tuesday, but it comes two days after his key ally, Chancellor Angela Merkel, was weakened by the German election results. Germany and France have traditionally been seen as the driving force behind European integration, and Macron is keen to act on a campaign promise to reform and strengthen the bloc. He has called for the creation of a euro-zone finance minister and a euro-zone budget that would be voted on by a parliamentary assembly. Even before the German election results, which have left Merkel faced with difficult coalition negotiations, those ideas were regarded with scepticism by some in Berlin. Venezuela opposition shuns govt talks     — 26th September 2017 Venezuela’s opposition said on Tuesday it would not send representatives to the Dominican Republic for talks with President Nicolas Maduro’s government due to lack of progress on issues from human rights to elections. Following months of anti-Maduro protests earlier this year, which led to at least 125 deaths, both sides sent delegations to meet the Dominican Republic’s president this month for talks. The talks were to find a possible solution to Venezuela’s deep political crisis. But the opposition said on Tuesday it was pulling out of the talks planned for Wednesday for fear of a time-wasting “show”. Also, Mrs. Mercy Ilesanmi accused a lawmaker in the state, Dare Pelemo, of sexually harassing her. But the lawmaker has denied her claims, describing as frivolous and false.
